Mary Daggett Lake Library

The Rock Springs Building was built in 1934.  The Fort Worth Garden Club opened it as a garden center in 1935. Mary Daggett Lake, a charter FWGC member, served as the Botanic Garden Center’s first director until her death in 1955.

Mrs. Daggett’s office was restored, redecorated, and established as a Library with more than 1,500 volumes, including books from her personal library.

In 2002, Mrs. Joyce Capper acquired a Texas Historical Marker that recognizes Mrs. Lake’s many accomplishments. The Mary Daggett Lake Library Committee maintains her legacy, conserves the fragile and historic volumes and acquires new books.
