Readership for our Newsletter is usually about 64%, significantly above the industry average of 16%. To maintain that standard:
Keep it short
Newsletter – Less than 170 words for Newsletter (most members read via phone)
The more emails an organization sends, the fewer are opened and read.
Keep it simple
Use Word (power-point must be converted to photo and words become too tiny)
Put pictures in jpeg format
Send pictures separately vs embedded in document, max 2
Use bullets vs paragraphs
Keep it legal
Only use legal sites where pictures can be used without copyright infringements are Pixabay and Creative Commons
Can use photos from BRIT and FWBG if referenced below each photo (see Yearbook for examples)
Can use your own photos
Keep it fun
Use short and catchy headline
Keep it limited
Goal is only 1 – 2 emails per month, consolidating Reminders / eBlasts
Rather, use Newsletter
Keep it predictable
Newsletter distributed on 1st Tuesday of month, content submitted by 20th of prior month
Website RSVPs initiated approximately 3 weeks prior
Operating Principles:
The volume of communications for the Website, Newsletter, Facebook, Directory and various Events with all the associated changes and meeting scheduling can be overwhelming. To effectively communicate, each FWGC committee leader:
Keeps it front and center
Reports their activities monthly, via our channels (Web, Newsletter, Facebook, Instagram)
Keeps it managed
Submits only final information to Communications team (cut and paste ready)
