Together in partnership, the Fort Worth Garden Club (FWGC) and FWBG|BRIT present in the Girls Nature Workshops series! These hands-on programs connect girls and their families to the fascinating world of horticulture and floriculture. Each workshop highlights skills and activities designed to inspire the next generation of plant lovers and environmental stewards.
Girls Nature Workshops are recommended for ages 7-13. Locations vary; please check program location for each workshop. Registration for each workshop includes admission
Learn about plant adaptations by studying four of five North American carnivorous plants found in Texas and how these plants have adapted to capture nitrogen by attracting, capturing and digesting insects. Participants will create a bog planter for a pitcher plant to take home to capture insects in their own environment.

Participants will learn basic technical skills of working with flowers and foliage and use the art principles of balance, rhythm and proportion to create a floral design.

Discover the benefits of commonly used spices, their origins, and how to identify these plants guided by Joyce Block, Fort Worth Botanic Garden Rainforest Conservatory curator. Make a citrus/cinnamon garland to spice up the holidays, followed by a scavenger hunt in the Botanic Garden Conservatory.

Participants will learn about the most primitive true flowering plant in evolutionary history that is over 95 million years old. Using the leaves of this plant, the girls will create a poinsettia “blossom” to celebrate the holiday season.

Discover the fascinating world of Lichens with Dr. Manuela Dal Forno, BRIT Research Botanist and renowned Lichenologist. Participants will examine specimens collected from around the world and prepare their own field researcher’s envelope and will create an art piece using lichens ethically gathered from the local area.

Jewelers have looked to nature for inspiration for centuries. Come be inspired in this workshop to create your own necklace made from embellished botanicals to make a fashion statement. A guided visit to the Butterflies in the Garden exhibit will conclude the workshop.
